I liked your post Jeremy. I have never listened about this book or this guys in Brazil, but I agree with most of the highlights you shared with us. And you are right, we must be worried about how to move the church in the right direction instead of talking about someone's mistakes. Good job!

Thanks Jeremy, and we will pray for your Lifetree ministry as well! When it is convenient for them I have some good friends over in Berea, KY that may visit some time. They are excited about the Lifetree concept.

Rejoicing in the steps...

Hi Steve,

Glad you stopped by, and really excited that you're looking at planting a Lifetree! For us, the church location made sense, much as you have said, because of the costs associated with off-campus sites. The trade-off that we've found, though, is that it has been harder to get the unchurched through the doors (probably less than 15% of our attendance would be identified as "seeker"). We have had some success, and nearly everyone who has visited once has returned (both church members and non). But marketing to a seeker audience has been a bit tougher with the church location, and we're seeing the majority of our attendees are either plugged in to another ministry at our church already, or are at least attending somewhere in the community. The location has a huge impact on who you will draw, without a doubt. Even with all that in mind, I firmly believe that this ministry can speak to those outside the walls of the church in a way that no other program out there has. It will take some time to catch on and grow, but Lifetree will be a ministry that changes your community, no matter where God has in mind for its planting. Blessings on your work, and if there's any way I can help, please feel free to ask!

Jeremy,

Thanks for your insights about Lifetree Cafe. I was given your url by Lisa Young. gaitha and I are USA Field Missionaries for the American Missionary Fellowship. We are praying / planning a Lifetree Cafe for here in Columbia, MO. We originally thought of doing it in a coffeehouse venue, but the related costs involved are somewhat prohibitive. As we did not expect that some people would be interested in going to a "church" location. Since then God has opened our eyes to other sites, two of which are local churches in different quadrants of town. What percent of attendees would you say are "Seekers" at your location? Thanks again for your insight.

Thanks, Frank, for your comments. I appreciate your concerns. Let me explain a bit about how Lifetree Café approaches this (and every) subject. This is a community forum. There's no sermonizing. All are welcome to share their views. That's what makes for a fascinating and informative hour. Lifetree has no "predetermined outcome of the discussion." The film segments in this program include comments from articulate Muslims from across the U.S., and from a man who worked in the Middle East. The filmed segments are used to spark the live discussion in the room. This program has already been screened for a diverse audience of Muslims, Jews, Christians, and non-believers, who all found the hour to be fair, respectful and very helpful in bridging understanding for all. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide showings of the film prior to the Lifetree Café hour. I urge you to bring your friend from Saudi Arabia. He'll not only gain from the experience, but his first-hand perspectives will be welcomed by the gathering. Feel free to call me if you'd like to talk more. Hope to see you and your friend at Lifetree Café on Tuesday!

Blessings,

I watched the online preview of next week's topic re: Muslims and was not so enthusiastic about the portrayal of Lifetree's projected opinion of Islam/Muslim people nor the seeming predetermined outcome of the discussion from Lifetree. I am ambivalent about my participation as I have a very dear friend visiting from Saudi Arabia who is seeking mutual ground for conversation about faith. Is there any way I could screen the presentation material in advance to assure my friend we are still friendly and not trying to subvert his beliefs?

Thank you for your prayerful consideration,

Frank
